The Garneau Theatre is a beautiful 1940 art deco style movie theatre, lovingly restored and seating up to 500 patrons. It has the capacity to screen a variety of video formats, 35mm film, and has a permanent stage with PA and lights to accommodate a variety of live performance forms.

The theatre is located in central Edmonton, just steps away from the University of Alberta, the Whyte Avenue district and the High Level Bridge.

Metro Cinema programs the Garneau with a mix of contemporary and classic films, and also partners with and rents to a variety of other organizations and individuals.

The Garneau's lobby is also equipped with projection and sound equipment, permitting screenings, meetings etc for groups of 10-50.

How To Book

Space at the Garneau Theatre is generally allocated in 2-2.5 hour blocks, with multiple events on most days. Rates vary by day of the week and time of day, and discounts are offered to not for profit groups.

To book, contact Dan Smith with preliminary information about your event, and a sense of the range of dates, days and times that would work for you. We will do our best to accommodate your needs, but please be aware that the Garneau is a busy and popular space.

Hours Of Operation Screenings and events go on every evening, and on weekend afternoons. Additional events at other times of the week are also available by special arrangement.
Rental Policy Once a date, time and rate for the event are mutually agreed upon, Metro Cinema will issue the renter an agreement. A booking is not considered firm until a signed agreement and 50% deposit have been received.
Cancellation Policy If a cancellation occurs prior to the date of an event for reasons deemed by Metro Cinema to be beyond the control of the renter, the deposit may be retained to be applied against the cost of future rentals. If an event is cancelled by Metro Cinema, a refund of up to the full deposit paid will be issued.
